Entropia

Oh, those Czechs :)

The Czech Republic decided to begin its six months presidency by displaying a piece of ‘art’ in one of the European institutions building. Who would have thought that this would cause so much controversy across the continent? I mean, no one would want to see their country being presented on international forum as a mosaic of squat toilettes (Bulgaria), but all the other countries are shown in an innocent and humorous way which often mocks national characteristics or associations with a particular country. Thus, there is Italy depicted as a football pitch, Romania with Dracula’s face and France on strike.

The only worrying portrait is that of Germany, which looks a bit like a swastika. I don’t know, however, whether this was the author’s intention or not.

What I don’t entirely understand is the idea behind the representation of Poland. It shows men who look like priests and who are putting up the rainbow flag. Is this saying: a great number of Polish gays live in priesthood? or: Poland is famous for its Catholicism and the situation of gays in the country? My interpretation would be that it depicts a constant struggle between progress, human rights, equality and tradition which is inextricably connected to the Roman Catholic Church.

But judge for yourself:
